Re: Beware of STERLING AUTO CLASSICS

Sorry to hear that, Angelo. I had the same deal happen to me by a dealer in Utah last year. I made a deal to buy a yellow T-top Formula from him and he calls me back in a few hours to say that he had been offered more money and was I willing to up my bid. I told him that as far as I was concerned I had already bought the car and saw no reason to up any bid. We had already made plans for him to pick me up at the airport and everything.. He knew the car was sold but he saw $500 extra dollars in it for him so he threw any character he might have had out the window.

The good news is that the guy who bought the car ended up deciding it was junk and tried to sell it to me for my original price and of course I told him no. It was as much his fault as it was the dealers because the dealer told him it was sold and he offered more money to break the deal with me... Karma does work! Hopefully it is the same for you and it is someone else getting screwed instead of you.

Re: Beware of STERLING AUTO CLASSICS

I have dealt with Terry before and he has always been more than fair with me ,he does have possession of these cars I have personally seen them.I obviously don,t know what your business deal was with Terry and non-refundable plane tickets is an unfortunate loss. But just for me personally I would not consider a car or kit sold until there was a cash deposit in hand or at the least a cheque in the mail coming to me ...was that your situation?....from my side of the fence if I had a dollar for every guy who said he was going to buy one of my kits or turn-keys I would be rich by now ...John (The Fiberglass Workshop)

I can't speak for Angelo's deal but on mine, I offered to pay the entire amount with my credit card on the phone when we made the deal initially. He said not to worry about it and he would see me when I got to the airport... Reminder: This is not with this Sterling company, just a similar situation.

I understand Songman...I just think for myself if I was going to travel on an airplane at a large expense to myself I would have sent a good faith deposit first to hold the car with the aggrement that maybe the deposit would be refundable in person if having travelled to see the car and I didn't like it... just what I would do in a similar situation

Re: Beware of STERLING AUTO CLASSICS

Angelo I can see how you would think I was being favorable to Terry , me being the "seller" in that situation* understandable, however I do* feel I know Terry a little now and do feel personally that he is an honest guy* and certainly not any type of "scammer" as you mentioned in your first post.Just a business man trying to earn a living .Like I said I have no idea what your arrangement* was with Terry* *and I am sorry to hear you lost* that much money.Yes* as a seller I always ask for a deposit from a new client it separates* them from the people* not really serious at the time.although most buyers in my experience will return several times before actually* writing a cheque something* you couldn't do. Maybe* you both were wrong in not establishing a deposit in this situation to seal the deal. But also I don't think a seller is under any obligation to inform potential buyers about other buyers, unless its something both have agreed* on.." in life I have always used the" buyers beware" to guide me in my dealings .As you mentioned the ticket is not refundable, but maybe could you take the same flight at a later date?I have seen 25ths for sale* often in the area, there is also quite a few members here in the Toronto area ..anybody know of a* partial completed 25th for sale?...* regards John
