Want to build a one-off replica but don't know where to start!!!

Since it looks like a certain brand of UK car will quash any attempt at replicating it's models (AM), then I feel i have no choice to but to attempt to replicate a one-off version for myself.

I have no intention of making anything for sale, purely for my own pleasure.

But where the heck do i begin?
OK so I choose a donor car right, then I can either attempt to mould panels from an existing car (which i don't have, otherwise why would i replicate one...), or buy genuine second hand part.
The latter seems ok until you get to doors, rear quarters, boot lids etc which there are not many about.

Also how do you fit all this stuff safely and securely?

I have never built a replica before. I could if i was shown how to, but then you may as well pay someone to do it for you!?

I guess it depends on how much you're willing to spend eh?

Is that why some here only build a few fiberglass bodies and then move onto another project? Can they sell their molds to someone else and have the new owner build 4 more, and so on?

how many californications did i build?
    now you know why!
no you cant sell the moulds afterwards not for 5 years
as it is the californiaction was released prior to any thing else called something like it so i dont have to worry bizzarly i own the ip rights as you do not get any protection until you have a finished product in the public domain
    hence pattent pending

I am behind you all the way with this Steve.

As we can get nearly all the original Aston parts required except roof and rear quarters (scrappers required) the accuracy could be spot on.

I am still fancying a BMW for the DBS (with some suspension modifications to get the exact wheelbase), but the Vantage is proving a much harder donor search.
There are a few cars with the required 2600mm wheelbase, but the layout front front wheels to windscreen are way off.

I was planning a similar build to the Extreme Murci, fit all the original Aston body to a frame, ensuring good panel fit, then strip the donor and fit the frame to the donor.

Does anyone know if the gearbox can be moved on a vehicle (so the cabin can be moved back), this would open the options for a Vantage replica ???

Well you could always just continue what DJ was doing..go with the DB9 build for a celica..Now we all know that it wouldve worked if AM hadnt of stopped him. If you absolutely HAVE TO HAVE a DBS, then go find a celica hardtop and go from there...I'm honestly thinking about doing that myself..not to sell, just because I see it as a doable project. and I LOVE Astons

Far as I see..as long as God gave you 2 hands and a brain, and determination it can be done.. 8)

to leave an engine where it is and move a gearbox
    you will need :
1)an extension plate, like an adapter plate but not to go from an audi engine to s ford g/box just an extension
    2) a jack shaft same length as adaper palte above, this is to extend the input shaft
    3) a shortened propshaft, by the amount youve added in front
    4) most likly all new clutch parts as
    5) you will need to address the clutch operating forck and its fulcrum, if it is cable or hydralic cylinders, pipes and cables as required.
    6) all new gear linkage as the gearlever will move back, unless your donor allready has a cable operated linkage.

    not hard to do
