    Windshield Cutting

    Hi,

I found a WaterJet cutting company that cuts windshield here in Southern California. They have a set-up fee of $200 plus the cutting fee $30 each. Is there anyone who needs windshield cutting so we can split the set-up fee??? This quote is based on cutting the windshield of Dodge Stratus/Breeze/Cirrus to use on Ferrari body kits.

PS: They are not responsible if the windshield breaks.

    Thanks.
    ak

Ive seen windowscreens being cut by hand. most good glaziers should be able to do it, even seen a clip on you tube a long time ago, they score both side and tap along, then once done they heat it , normally lighter fluid or something like that is lit to melt the plastic between the 2 glass sheets, I had mine done at my local windowscreen fitting company, worth looking into before you spend when not needed

waterjet is the best way to go, it doesnt heat up the glass and cause it to shatter. That is how I'm getting the windshields cut for the zonda's. Plus side you will save tons of money instead of getting custom glass made. Tooling for a custom windshield is well over $3000 plus extra for the part that is being made

I did a write up on this forum on cutting windshields about 6 months ago. I used a Rotozip fitted with a diamond router bit. Water was also used to keep the glass cool when cutting. It takes all day to cut one but comes out very nice.

The tube taped on the side of the unit, supplies the water for cooling.

    McGyver,
I wish you were close by... I would love to purchase your windshield... Would you mind making a paper template of the cut windshield and mail me a copy?

    Thanks
