    Mr2 wizzkids needed

Hi guys ( and gals if you looking over your fellas shoulder whilst he looks at some erotic cars) , i'm in need of some mr2 mk2 expert advice if possible, i currently have a J plate 1993 turbo for some reason it came with mechanical system in the dash clocks recording mileage etc, i want to change these to the celica electrical clocks, now i've been told that this CANNOT be done by someone just wondered if anyone else had come across this problem and managed to sort it, if there is some sort of add on that can sort this ??? Cheers (a soon to be f430 ( mr2kits) owner)

Done that but as i cannot see all of the tread i'm not sure if he had the same problem in changing mr2 mechanical clocks to celica electrical ones, i believe that most of the dash conversions ( dave jones ones ) have been mr2 electrical to celica electrical without a problem

Not easy, but dont see why it cant be done. Obviously the main issue is mechanical speedo drive to electronic speedo conversion.

To do this you could use:
    http://www.thor-racing.co.uk/Mechani...t-SE_TRANS.asp

then you will get a frequency out ( which may not be the right speed / freq for the celica speedo ) so you could then use:
    http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=KC5435

However before all of this it may be worth looking at your original mr2 cluster. Have a look at the speedo clock - are there any electrical connections aswell as the mechanical input ? Since it may have a electrical frequency out that is used by the ecu or power steering. Then you may only need the speedo convertor.

Is the above a mechanical kph-mph converter rather than a mechanical to electrical converter ??

DOH ! your right. Oh dear Star status lost !

The one i was thinking of must have been:
    http://www.dakotadigital.com/index.c...rod/prd109.htm

However - 1st i would still check the mr2 cluster for an electronic output, however if not - why not get hold of a later speedo sender ( ie from the gearbox side ) and see if this is a direct swap for the mechanical cable or worst case just mechanically link the end of the mech cable to the Toyota speedo sender ?

Again you may still hit calibration issues but that can be corrected with the jaycar unit or an sgi5 from Dakota digital

Here is what i was thinking, take the speedo mechanics out of the mr2 clocks, change the fasia for the one from the celica speedo then place this unit into the celica dash clocks ...... thus retaining a mechanical speedo but within the celica electrical clock system, can anyone think of any problems that may occur in doing this ?
