    SSC Ultimate Aero 2

As you probably know, Shelby super cars is going to unveil the all new SSC Ultimate Aero 2 in a week or two. The company posted some teaser 3d rendering at their main page a few weeks ago: http://www.shelbysupercars.com/

(the main page was slightly modified today) http://img829.imageshack.us/img829/9826/ssctemp2.jpg

That V-shaped nose from the teaser reminds me of the Lambo concept rendering shown below that was created by tweaking a photo of Honda FC Sports Car Concept (http://www.hydrogenassociation.org/m...da_fcSport.jpg )

It will be interesting to see whether the new SSC Aero 2 will look like that Lambo concept, or the company will finally use its own original design. I hope they will do the latter as the current SSC Aero is just an altered Diablo replica with engine on steroids. And also get rid of the Gonzo nose on the bonnet and front bumper ( http://img838.imageshack.us/img838/88/0417gonzo.jpg ). 6 years ago, when the company was still in the kit car business under the name Shelby custom exotics, they used one of their replica Diablo bodies to create the Aero plug. they put a lot of effort to improve the dynamics of SSC Aero during the years, but the exterior and interior design, build quality and bodywork was still in the mid-to-low kit car range. I saw their latest modification in person and the entire body was full of wavy areas, the assembly was all wrong (too wide or too tights gaps between the body panels), symmetry of the body was poor, the rubber seals of the doors were twisted and folded here and there, there was a GIANT gap between the waste seals and the power windows (lots of water will go inside the door), etc... The 2-color paint was cool, though. It's the same car from these videos:

I remember seeing their roadster replica at knotts. Then I liked their ssc. I wonder how many they sold, especially at such a high price. They must have done ok if they are doing round 2. Prob a smart move going for the super rich. Our world is getting more and more polarized, either super rich or super poor !

    Re: SSC Ultimate Aero 2

I can't find any information about the number of cars SSC sold so far, but the owner of the Ultimate Aero from the videos above said that there are 15 cars of the old modification and he has the 1st number of the 2010 modification. Selling 16+ cars for 5 years sound pretty good considering the price, design and quality.

Although the main page is still a "wallpaper" with no clickable menus, I was able to browse the entire website through http://www.shelbysupercars.com/ultimate-aero.php

I just wonder why Jerod Shelby "forgot" to mention his long experience in the replica kit car industry at his bio http://www.shelbysupercars.com/jerod-shelby-bio.php . Was not it his REAL take-off to the supercar scene? They also claim that Shelby super cars was founded in 1999 and they developed SSC Aero 7 years until 2007, although the truth is that until 2004 they produced replicas of Ferrari F355 and Lamborghini under the name SCE (Shelby custom exotics). In 2003 I read that Jerod Shelby has a new idea to start the development of a super car, but that's 4-5 years later than the claimed 1999.
This reminds me of the Koenigsegg case where Christian von Koenigsegg claimed to be the original designer of Koenigsegg CC since 1992, but "forgot" to tell the truth about acquiring the original prototype from an old Swedish man, a car builder who strictly copied a car from the 1988 Japanese cartoon movie "Akira" (the cartoon car is almost the same like the first Koenigsegg CC prototype). That project was called Sethera Falcon and it was later bought from Christian von Koenigsegg. But that's another story. I just don't like such scenarios that most sports companies invent to give people a fake impression of longer experience or "kid's dream come true" story.

Lets hope that the new SSC Ultimate Aero 2 will be making a big success, both as great design and unrivaled performance.

For 645,000 there are better choices then the ultimate aero. I did watch a special on that car on tv. I believe its a twin charged Ls3 or ls7. I know the car went through a wind tunnel for testing. Tanner Foust tested it on Supercars, and I got the impression he was not to impressed. The top speed is very impressive for a v-8.

I do wish Mr. Shelby good luck and commend him for making a american based supercar.

Around $80,000 - $100,000 put into an RCR SL-C would be far to the best bet for any amount of dollar. That thing is a crazy DIY Supercar.

So, they paid Jason Castriota to combine Ferrari 458 Italia with Lamborghini Murcielago, then add Ferrari P4/5 glass&roof, and finally put horrible Bertone Mantide-like front end? :'( After all those claims for "something unseen before" and "better than any other supercar" I expected a lot more than that. However, the overall shape looks more aerodynamically efficient than the old Ultimate replica Lamborghini Diablo front end Isdera Commendatore side air intakes Ultima GTR rear end Aero.
