    Post and topic deletion and other website issues... Update.

    Personally I have recently noticed a few issues with disappearing threads and posts, including my own. After a brief contact with the Admin, It was discovered the site has had a security breach and the Admin has updated a few security patches to clear the problem up.

    In the past I have received messages asking why certain threads and posts have been removed. When the removed items were out of my knowledge, I have always referred to the fact there are 2 mods and an Admin. Well it looks like there is an actual answer. The security breach appears to have been fixed and hopefully the "Over Moderation" wont look so severe as it has in the past.

    Hi can you officially confirm if eBay links are being removed or not allowed. In the past there was no problem posting them but now they are being deleted!

    For example I posted the eBay link of a car I purchased, to show other members and get their input,,,,it was not even an active auction, and it was deleted!

    We really need a clear guideline because nobody likes to spend time writing a post just to have it deleted!

    Thanks

    I am wondering if this breach in security also exposed or allowed complete access to all of the members
    'personal information" and do you know who in fact was doing the alterations/deletes etc. on the board?

    Thanks for the update Powerhouse; it's good to know that it was a technical issue and not solely a censoring issue. Much appreciated.

    Thanks for the update Dan;

    Can we ask the Admin to create a new group called Interesting cars for sale or something like that so people who want to post about ebay cars or Craigslist cars can do so and not clutter other discussion areas. That way, anyone that is interested in trolling through ads like that, can do so without interrupting other threads. Mostly Craigslist would be the big ones since it is so disjointed between cities etc. so a central location like this can allow folks to get good deals they might not have seen otherwise.

    Thoughts everyone?

    Cheers

    No it never allowed access to personal info. just the ability to remove posts. Even as a Mod we dont have access to that information, based on the software, as i use it for another discussion forum, the admin has no access to that info as well.

    It is unlikely we are even able to see who or how the hack was done. Moving forward the admin has applied all the necessary security patches to the software.

    This is perhaps the best solution to the issue. I will bring it to Ari's attention.
