Doin' some awesome work! have you thought about drilling
some speed holes in the flat bar and the sq tube. I'll bet
you could loose 10-15 pounds of material and not give up
any strenth. Just an idea... Keep Up The Good Work!

Wow speed holes? Never heard of that before...
I will be putting in my LT-1 motor "someday"
so I hope I do not need to worry about going
to the next level of speed holes.

Its just a thought to help save weight. If you are adding a lot of steel to your car, it adds up fast. Even more if you are using a underpowerd motor. A nice LS1 should'nt have an issue of t.q. pushing the weight of the added metal to the car. However in some ways, drilling holes in the steal like the photo above can add in the crash factor of the car.
I know, bad thing to think about sorry.

*p.s. i dont meen in a bad way, it helps the car in a crash.

You know, the other thing too is that the 5/8th inch
plate is crazy hard to cut much less drilling any size
    holes in it. ;D

The whole point about my over the top
steel framing is that I know my wife and
a select short list of close friends will be
driving this car. So, I put real rear bumper
shocks in and moose guard front bumper "plow".

I also have the same 5/8th in plate on the door
    sills. See below.

Just curious... What are you really protecting if you hit a moose or deer for that matter? Unless it goes right over the car, it's coming through the windshield.

;D ;D Well I give an A for effort but massive amounts of steel will never replace or compete with a well designed and engineered crumple zone. By the way is gas mileage even a consideration ??????
