new guy looking for options on a corvette kit car

    greetings..

some of you may have read my posts on other forums..* my main interest is in street rods, early hot rods and most recently woodie wagons..

primarily I have been working in steel, in fact, last winter I (along with several friends) built a replica model a ford body (photos can be seen at http://public.fotki.com/sawzallshop/...lls_shop_shop/

up until now I havent been too interested in kit cars.. however recently I have develped a WANT for a 53 - 54 corvette..

obvously, given my background I would want to highly modify the car.. and of course this necessitates my need for a kit..

for the most part I am only looking for the body.. I can, and would build my own chassis and most likely would power the car with a v8 of some flavor..

so my question (sorry this is so lengthy)

does anyone produce a 53 - 54 vette kit car? and if so whom? also has anyone had any experience with the vette kit?

    thanks in advance

    sawzall

Yes they absolutely do make a replica body of the 53 with modern suspension etc. I don't know the price, but from looking at the details I would bet it's not cheap. Have you tried kitcar.ocm or kit/replica on e-bay. I'm sure if you search enough you'll find one even if they're not made anymore.

Do I have some info for you...

I believe one Vette "kit" car was called the Vette-Rod . It was a 53-54 looking body if I'm not mistaken but I think it used the 69 to 81 Corvette Frame as a "donor". I thought you could do a custom frame as well. I think they are out of business but then I read that they started back up again.

Every now and again you will see one on Ebay. A few months back there was a 58 / 59 looking Vette rebody on a 73 vette frame on E-bay. Looked pretty good except for some interior items.

I'll check on the older computer and see if I have some other links saved.

Also, (not sure if you could do a custom frame with this one). There was a company many, years ago that made a Corvette body for the 73-77 Cutlass, Buick Regal frames. It sounded wierd but the car looked really good. Nice with the Olds 455 but I think handling may be an issue in those cars.

But... Check out the info below. The first is a place that builds C1 (53-62 bodies) for C4 Era Corvettes. Pretty cool concept. Great body styling with a modern powertrain.

I know it isn't a 53/54 but they are nice. I have been in the shop and seen the work first hand. The bodies are made for Mike, who owns Street Rods Only, by possibly the biggest street rod glass business around. If it wasn't for the memory I'd tell you who it is! ;D

I have a friend who has a 53 original sitting under a shed and under a tarp. You think it would be worth my time to pull a mold off of it and sell a few bodies? It's all there, and no he won't sell it! I've tried.

I think the market wants a quality kit with a reputable company.
I would not recommend the one from LoneStar
