    F355 build progress.... in texas

Well I have only ever posted a few times on this forum...but now I should be able to introduce my self as a replica builder!

I have had my fiero for about a year or so, and just found a 355 kit I am buying. Just finalized the deal today and if all goes well I may have it this saturday and if not next weekend for sure.

So obviously I am pretty jacked about it all..I have waited a long time to start building something.

My fiero is an 88 V6 5 speed formula, and the kit I am getting is a 3" stretch 355 coupe (buying it off of someone). Worked out a fair price for the kit and in exhange for delivery I will be making a 2 lambo hinges for his cars. It is easy to put the cart before the horse on something like this, but all the little things has my head spinning. Such as what I can do to make it just the way I want it (accessory wise). I have anodizing, polishing and powdercoating capabilities in my shop, as well as a few lathes and a cnc mill that should add to all of the fun. My intial thought is to go with black paint on the car and do black chrome trim pieces instead of the standard regular chrome finish....I dont have the black chrome in my shop...yet anyways. I think I may look into bringing in that capability as well.

Any one on here live in the austin tx area?

I do plan on doing a build site as well.

Anyways just wanted to say hi and I will get some pics together when I get the kit.

    Thanks
    Dan

That's cool. There's a ton of info in these threads that you can research under "355".

Dan I'm north of you in Glen Rose TX I might be able to help you if you need it. My first advice to you do not use a nice Fiero for a donor get a coupe that is rough. You will end up replacing everything anyway. If you still want my help call me 254-396-0306

    Re: F355-anyone in texas?

    thanks!

The car is in decent condition, the biggest problem are the brakes, which really are not a problem, they were just in bad shape.

I will probably be giving you a call at some time I am sure I will have a few questions when it comes to some tips on the glass work. That is my weakest area of knowledge, although I do have some info in the mail right now. The fabbing of stuff for the frame wont be a big deal.

    Look forward to my calls

    Thanks again

has anyone on here had good luck selling off the body panels and whatever else is left over from their donor for any decent money?

I have an 88 formula that I will be parting out here in the next few weeks and I am curious to see how much of the $800 I paid for the car I will be able to get back. The body is in fairly good condition.

The body parts from a Formula are not that much in demand. GTs are what people want for bodys (in general). If you put wide suspension under it you can probably sell suspension parts. When John Watson put my spider together he just hauled the body parts away from my GT. He said that it wasn't worth the bother trying to sell them.

yeah I figured it is not the most popular car, maybe the wing on the back will sell. I was just looking for some ideas. I will probably put them up on craigs list regadless to make a few bucks back if possible...I have a real bad tool buying habit and every little bit extra helps

So I guess there really isnt too many people around in texas?? more specifically in the austin area? I would like to meet more people with the same interest as well I am always open to swaping help with the build which could be good for some figuring my shop is designed for metal work

I have met Dale before they guy who owns www.lambobuilder.com a few years ago but dont think he is doing much of it anymore...

let me know if anyone else is close??

When doing my last 355 I sold all my GT parts for 200 bucks that was the best I could get for everything. A wing will sell for 80 to 100 bucks but I used mine on my coupe at the time.

well even $200 imo is worth it if they go fairly quickly. That can pick up either some parts for the car or even a decent tool for the shop. I am going to give it a try and just see what happens anyways.

Spider do you ever head down to the austin area?

    Hi KOS,
Im down in San Antonio.. Im rebuilding my fiero and plan on a custom body when i finally get there.. I also do power coating.. what size oven are you using ? and what type gun?
Ive got a website up documenting my dissambling and hopefully at some point reassembling my 88. You might find it helpful you might not but its www.beattoquarters.com .

Hi Spider hope your doing well up there!
