    whats involved in a 3800scconversion?

Besides the engine (which I have a 1998 58K motor with harness, computer etc already) and a custom flywheel, what else is involved with converting over to this engine. I have an 87 GT with a 5-speed. I will continue to use the stock 5-speed. I know that i will need a set of motor mounts and the computer reprogramed but what else is there? Anyone know of any good build threads?

Go on to Pennock's and do a search for 3800 S/C Swap and you will find some incredible amount of knowledge and technical threads explaining exactly what you need to do.

Just filter all the useless crap the idiots of the board put in the threads. Really great info source though.

If you don't have a source for the re-programmed ECU, I would not even begin the swap. That's the hardest part and it would be really bad to have everything put together but unable to run wihout the proper ECU chip.

I will be happy to outline my experience with the project. I have all of the specs listed on my web site when I built the Mirage. If you would be kind enough to send me your phone number I will call you. My email is newmdav@ISPWEST.COM

Duane Cox can do the ECU. It needs to be set up like a Pontiac Grand AM with bare bones, no pass key etc. Then the ECU needs to have the Automatic Over Drive grounded to keep the engine out of limp mode. Are you going to use a turbo etc? it can also be remapped to enhance the fuel mixture.

It really isn't all that hard.

Thanks everyone, I am glad that there are several choices for the reprograming the ECU. At least I was smart enough the get the one out of the donor car.

    Dave, email sent....
