    ? the 288 lights below the bumper

    Does anyone know what the dual lights under the bumper of the 288 are for and what they do? There is two sets of two under the bumper and I have no clue as to what they are for.

    Thanx

    In Europe, some countries require the red lights on the rear for driving in fog etc. Porsche used them as well. On the front the lights could be driving lights or fog lights depending on the set up. Most of the time they are driving lights that light the road close to the car filling the lighted area between the car and where the headlights take effect.

    Under the front bumper there are 2 sets of clear white lights. they look like square head llights. Are these the fog lights you are talkin about Dave.

    Jack;

    I beleive these were set in place for the Group C racing series where there were to be endurance races. I am not 100% sure on the endurance races but I seem to remember reading that somewhere.

    I planned on using the 4x6 or 3x5 (whatever size the smaller ones are) square sealed beams and have a switch in the car similar to a fog light setup you would see in North America.

    I really don't know for sure on this but that was what I planned on doing for the under the bumper lights.

    Jack:

    The white lights under the front bumper are driving lights used as Don mentioned. They used a red one on the rear below the bumper for a fog light etc. If you watch some of the GTP cars running LeMans etc you will see this light on the rear of their cars. It helps prevent people like me from running over someone's car in the dark. The newer cars like my 355 have the driving lights built into the lower front valance.
