    Finalized Procedure on Importing Kits to Canada

    Just came across this site, thought I would post it for anyone who had not seen it. Finally some clear answers to Canadian regulations on kit importation.http://www.tc.gc.ca/roadsafety/tp2436/rs200804/menu.htm

    This is a very complete outline that will answer a lot of questions for those who want to import or export products to and from Canada.

    I didn't see any info, or a link to any info on "going the other direction". [Exporting a built kitcat INTO the US] Does anyone have any info on this? I will sell my [Canadian] kitcar someday and I would like to know if it can go to the US. It is registered in my province as an 86 Fiero.

    Dale: Each State is different with regard to titling the car. The process to Import to the US is about the same as export rules. So you might need to visit the USA with the car before you decide to sell it here.

    So basically stealing the quote from the text: "Note: Most kit cars do NOT qualify. Therefore, kit cars cannot be manufactured to sell in Canada or imported into Canada" says it all in looking for an answer to the above title! When I was dealing with Transport Canada 8 years ago, rumour had it that some upper management guy(Transport Canada) got burned trying to import a kit. If true, I'll bet he had alot of influence on this!
    BTW.... Factory Five is about the only US company that spent the time (read $$) to comply with Transport Canada..... I'm not sure if that agreement still applies today.

    Cowans;

    The Factory Five deal still stands as a fellow near me in Calgary just brought in a Cobra from FF this past winter. It sailed through customs no problem using the rules and documentation FF gave to him.

    Don, good to know! Now, you've got me thinking whether FF 's GTM might make it through... HEHEH! might be my next project! Oh, and I just read that Transport Canada is 'relaxing' their bumper rules.... 'hamonizing with the USA' !
