should I sell, part-out or finish??

I am not enjoying this project like I thought I would and need to decide what to do with it. I have an IFG type 355 kit. I have around 17K - 18K invested already and don't have a clue what the thing will even drive like when done.

    current Status:
donor frame stretched and reinforced $1000
engine swap for custome SBC $6000 here already
wide track rear suspension with '88 cradle conversion $2200
front drop spindles, shocks bushings $600
    11.25" brake upgrade $1300
rear clip, doors, front clip bolted on (not glassed in) $3500
lights, emblems, etc purchased $1000 (will have to swap to corvette lights)

    NEEDED:
Still need to get an Engine Management system $1000 (holley commander 950)
should get wide track front suspension $1000
    exhaust system $??
    interior $??
    paint $??
    stereo $??
    top $??
    rear deck and hood/lights
all the body prep work, lots and lots of hours

So if I want to sell it whole I need to find someone that wants to pay for the type of engine/brakes I have installed. Everyone has their own specific tastes in this area. If I part it out I could put the orignial '87 cradle and suspension on and just sell it as a rolling chassis. Also have fiero fanatics as possible buyers for brakes and engine. heck engine could even be broken out of the V8 conversion to sell to any hot rodder. nothing is irreversible at this point so buyer could even switch to an AD kit.

how much do I lose selling whole versus parting out? Could I finish it? Could take forever and then what if I don't like how it handles when done. everybody's kit is pretty much unique due to engine suspension combinations. I am not trying to fool anyone into thinking it is a real Ferrari. I just wanted something eye catching with the performance to match.

just rambling on I guess. anyway what are the opinions??
What was I thinking??!!  I could have a VR4 Spyder for this kind of money.

with that much money already invested I think you're past the point of no return. You're better off just buckling down and finishing it. If you haven't installed any of the performance goodies you might want to hold off and go with the stock parts. Concentrate on finishing the body and getting it presentable. If you sell it at that point you won't lose as much money.
Even the longest journey begins with the first step.

started with a carbed system. won't fit under my kit. stupid kit is lower near the firewall than OEM. couldn't even get a carb hat or dropped air filter to fit.

Could you modify the engine cover a little. Not alot just enough to get a carb and a shallow 90 degree air horn on top. Then put a cold air tube on that with a K / N air filter on that? I saw that Eddie I think had a swell in his Coutach engine cover at first and it looked good like that.

I feel your pain... I ran the same setup and ended up building 1 3/4" drop brackets for the front of the engine cradle. it worked great. you can not mod your deck lid cover to look right. drop your cradle use a air cleaner snorkle from a 94'-98' jeep grand cheroke V8 and it only sticks up 2" don't give up.

the oil pan only has .75" - 1" before it is sitting on the rail. the starter has only .25". already been down this road. already spent the money to have an LT1 intake modified to work on a GenI SBC. of course it needed extra modification due to the heads I have.

re-read the post about lowering. You lowered the whole cradle not just the engine. Wish I had thought of that 4 months ago. already spent a bunch on the EFI conversion. Of course that does make for a change in the suspension. you lose some stroke in the strut.

dont sell it, part it or decide until you part out the finances. you have spent a lot more perhaps than you maybe could have or should have.....you dont even have the primary features done yet. Past the point of no return on that aspect like said....find less expensive means to finish it...
