How to make a piano hindge stiffer?

This problem sounds like a strange question, but anyone have any suggestions regarding how to make a piano hindge stiffer, so that it takes more weight to move it open?

It depends on where you have the weak point. Have you tried flat bar welded to each side of the hinge? If the hinge has the pivot away from the opening (it would be working backwards then) then you can overlap the pivot point with the flat bar and the hinge would be able to carry more weight.
    Clear as mud, huh?

:-\ I was thinking you wanted it to not open as easy? If so, try bending the hinge pin slightly and reinserting it? "Crimp" part of the hinge? Bend or warp the whole thing? I'm not really sure of what you are wanting I guess. What are you wanting to use it for? Maybe we would have a thousand alternatives for you to consider! 8)

I'm building barn doors for a stage light, and want to be able to adjust them to different angles. Larry's got the right idea regarding the methods I've considered. I think crimping the hindge might be the easyiest/quickest way to achieve this affect.
