    Re: Scientology?

I have quite a few friends who are Scientologists here in the Tampa Bay area. They have a big Org in Clearwater, Florida. I believe that as with most things there are good and bad alike. A quote from L. Ron Hubbard was “The worst thing about Scientology is that it is associated with religion”. I think part of their series of testing to find out your personal flaws and fears is interesting. Some of the movie stars use the Scientologist’s to help them with programming themselves for success. John Travolta’s career took off after he joined and rediscovered himself, same with Lisa Marie Presley, Tom Cruise, etc.

They own a lot of real estate down here in Florida and have a giant ship off sure for some top level training etc. That is where their official HQ is located, on that ship. The people I know who are members and business men in the community are doing very well. So I would think the Scientologists are more business than religion, but what religion these days isn’t really a business?

Just a little food for thought, eh!

Thanks. I had posted this because I had read Dianetics and I wanted more info. But when I talked to my friends they started telling me all of this horrible stuff about it. One of them had even given me this link that talks about how some Scientologist that didn't believe a 100% were murdered and that all of them were set-up as a suicide. http://www.scientology-lies.com/ http://www.scientology-kills.org . I just want to get more info

    Re: Scientology?

The only death I know of is a young woman in Clearwater, Florida who starved to death do to her own actions while under the care of a Scientologist Doctor.

The court system has cleared them of nay wrong doing. I think some of the auditing techniques they use are interesting and helpful.

    Scientology Aims:
A civilization without insanity, without criminals and without war, where the able can prosper and honest beings can have rights, and where man is free to rise to greater heights, are the aims of Scientology. — L. Ron Hubbard

I think some of the politician nut cases can use some of this information these days.

Those Scientologists love their lawyers. Check this out: do a google search for "Scientology VS" (Or just check out this link http://www.modemac.com/cos/cos3.html )

    UPDATE:
Here's a full list of the cases involving Scientology:
    http://www.xenu.net/archive/CourtFiles/

In my law class we studied a fairly famous case where they continually sued a crown attorney here in Toronto - http://www.lexum.umontreal.ca/csc-sc...scr2_1130.html for the court documents.

You can also check out http://www.xenu.net/ for more negative information regarding their organization.

Wow! I never saw the dark side, but I never really looked either. I didn't know you are going to law school. I did the same but never took the Ohio Bar. I worked on my MBA and Law degree at Capitol University in Columbus, Ohio. (Many years ago.) I wound up in the software industry rather than Contract Law.

How far are you along in the education process?

    Re: Scientology?

    Hey Dave,
Not actually in the Law program, just took one of the law courses offered to non-law students. I've been in media and information studies for the last two years, and am starting at the business school this upcoming year ( http://www.ivey.ca/ ). I'm in an "HBA" program - you can only enter it after completing two years of undergrad in another faculty. It's similar to an MBA program (I actually will be taking many of my classes with the MBA students), but not an all out MBA because it is not a graduate degree. Once I graduate, after getting work experience, I can return if I want and "upgrade" to a full MBA in one year instead of two. There is also a concurrent Law/HBA program available, where I would start law school next year in conjunction with my HBA program, but I haven't put much thought into taking it.
