    Removing paint from fiberglass body

Hey guys whats is the best process to remove paint from a painted fiberglass body?(chemical/sand). And what is the best primer to use when re-painting the body? Thanks.

PS. I am considering changing my current paint color of my car. Thanks

I would just use some red 3m Scotch Brite pads and scuff the whole thing up real nice. Then shoot right over that. If its clear coated of course. If u want to use a primer definately look into a hardener/thinner/base primer system. I shoot a ppg product that is a high buid formula. Its great. Hope that helps

On 'glass I would not under any condition use a chemical stripper of any kind. If you must use a blasting material I would use walnut hulls or plastic bead.

    Just my $.02

Try soda blasting. It is designed just for that sort of purpose. It will remove the paint and not damage the underlying surface.

Thanks for the info TXbuilder. So, have you actually used these? What does it do when it encounters filler? I would imagine it would take that stuff away too? I see they can be obtained from eastwood.com for about 3 bills. Experiences?

I haven't actually used one but a relative of mine used to sell them. I saw them demonstrated and they will remove only what you want them to. Once you get through the paint move on and you can leave whatever is below it. It is a matter of setting the pressure and volume and a little practice.

donīt sweat it, just sand it down good with 400 grit sandpaper. there is no need to remove the old paint, unless you have 3 or 4 different paint jobs underneath this one or if the paint is cracked . just paint over the old paint you will be ok. good luck by the way i have this many times ;D

If the existing paint has cracks, I assume you need to go down to fiberglass and fix the possible cracks in the bodywork and then redo the primer? My 308 I just got has a few cracks in the usual places.

    Thanks
