How to make custom sports seats

well not quite custom.. but if someone wanted to replicate the seat in the pic below, how would you go about doing it? obviously the carbon parts are pretty simple but i mean the padded section. how do you mould foam?

and yes, it is what you think it is.

You have a good question as to how to mold foam to precisely the shape you want. I hope some of the members can shed some light on this!

For custom seats, the foam is cut, not molded... basically a block of foam that is cut and tapered to whatever form you want.

oh....u might want to buy a normal sport cheap seat,
paste on some re-shaped spounges off your oem one...and make one...
    then trim it...
its much more cheaper that way...

making seat foam molds is pretty much the same procedure as making molds for interior parts. An epoxy mold will last about 25-30 shots before the its time to make a new one. to get the density right you will have to go playabout with fill ratio's, oh and make sure its a closed mold (with one hole to pour/vent) otherwise you will never get good density/definition.

but if you only want to duplicate the one you have to make a pair then blocks of foam and foam cutting knives are the way to go.

see that's what i was thinking, make a closed mold using grp and just pour the two-part liquid foam in. but i thought the pour foam was all pretty dense. so you're saying you can adjust the density by different ratios of catalyst and things? the seat is pretty soft like regular cushion foam so that's what i want to replicate. sorry for my naivety, i'll stick to grp in the future!

not the catalyst ratio, but how much liquid you put into your closed space, oh and dont use the stuff the make canoe floats from, buy the correct stuff from somewhere like TAP plastics

finally started to take it apart, the more i done this the more obvious it was to see how it was made originally and how i am going to be able to replicate it
