Help!! Need rear tires for an F 40

My newly aquired F 40 has 11 and 1/2 inch wide rear 16 in rims. The tires on it are Michelin XGTZ 315/40 ZR16, and I am told they are discontinued. One of mine has developed a sidewall failure. As a matter of fact searching all the tire manufacturers, the largest 16 inch tire available now appears to be a 255, other than Hoosier, who makes a 29X15.50 R 16; whatever the hell that is. Only trouble with that is the diameter is 4 inches more than my Michelins, and it would raise my rear end up two more inches. Toyo also makes a drag racing tire thats close, but for straight line use. anyone out there got a pair of 16 inch Really Wide tires they wish to sell??? Or any other suggestions other than going to 17 or 18 inch rims? I like these rims because no spacers were used with them. Any help would be appreciated! Steve

Thankyou Ferrobi, I have emailed the place selling these, to see what arrangements can be made. The duty into Mexico on these legally is almost 100% Steve

I needed rears for my F40 and two weeks ago I snagged a pair of new Michelin XGTZ P315/40 ZR16 on Ebay. Searching the whole size did not work but searching Michelin 315 did. $75 plus $20 shipping each. Keep an eye on Ebay.

Best way to go is just go ahead and get 17" or even better 18" Compomotives in the rear. The XGTZ wears fast and the MICKEY THOMPSON is really a drag tire that you can drive on the street. The 17"s look way better to. That's what I did.

Guys, thankyou for your input! Just to followup; I ended up finding a pair of new BF Goodrich Comp TA 295/50-16- a dealer had them here in Mazatlan! The footprint on these is still 10 inches, like the 315 Michelins. Because they were designed for a 10 inch wide rim, (mine are 11 and a half) when they pop on, the diameter drops. They added three quarters of an inch ride height to the rear- I don't notice any significant difference in handling. They also just clear the Spring perch by a bit on the strut. Actually, they fill out the wheel well better than the old tires. All together, about $290 for the pair. Duty on any tire ordered from the States, is almost 100% at the Mexican border. (Same with car parts) Steve
