Wheel adapters behind the rotors theory. Hummmmmmm

I was looking around the net today and came across someone that is mounting wheel adapters behind the rotors so you don't have the routers sitting back the thickness of the adapter.

Has anyone ever tried this? Obviously you would need to custom mount the calipers. I would also think the adapters should be created with wheel centrics built in.

    Any thoughts?

i think the braking would just put more stress on the spacers. doesnt sound safe

That's true. That would be adding a lot of extra side stress on the spindles where the adapter attaches. It shouldn't be an issue on the adapters themselves since you could probably make them out of a solid aluminum block.

i have tested it out.it works on some cars.the big problem is getting extensions custom made up to relocate the rotors to the new location.not that big a deal.you must also get hubcenric spacers and be mindful to machine the rear of it to match the rear of the rotor exact.that being said,im not big on spacers.

just read what he did.close but no prize.he should have also machined the front of the spacer or had them custom made to retain the hub centric ring.he is going to have vibration issues.

If it's only a 1" billet adapter to change the bolt pattern I don't think I'd worry about the adapter failing. The adapter will need a deeper center ring and longer studs as well as brackets to relocated the calipers. On the other hand why not just paint the adapters to match the wheels & be done with it? Or, better yet, get custom wheels with the needed offsets & do away with the adapters.

correct 1" or less i wouldnt worry, but he should of just made them match the wheel
