Isn't the 944 a front engine, rear transaxle like the c5 vette. I have heard of someone proposing that drivetrain (the c5) though for a murci.

Oh, I was thinking of transplanting the engine into my Fiero kit, not build a 355 out of the 944. ;D

Would it have an advantage over an ecotech four? Do you want to adapt it to a fiero transaxle?

Well my problem is I like almost everything auto related. Please, Please check, because I am only thinking out loud. I think, think the bellhousing is the same as audi (might be 924 I am thinking about). If it is you could use the 944 engine with a audi transaxle and get that baby in there north and south instead of sideways!! Or why not just use the audi engine and trans? I'm just curious of what is your driving factor? Cost? Already got one?

I have own a couple of these cars. Since many have put the LS1 into the 944 I bet the 2.5 N/A would fit into the fiero. Have you checked the engine swap site? I have even heard of a hot 302 Mustang and tranny being put into a 944. Anything is possible. Would be interested to see what you find out.

Yes understand what you are aiming to do, just gave the 302 in the 944 as an example. The forum does not having alot of people posting but there are are couple guys on there that have done almost every swap thinkable:

For any additional 944 parts you might need I recommend:

    http://www.944online.com/

The forum there may also be able to help you. On the parts side look for Ian in the forum, he owns the 944 Online shop.

And keep us posted. Good luck.

How long is the 944 engine? There is not a lot of room even with a 3 inch stretch to convert the engine to a longitudual configuration. I had to remove the entire firewall and give up axle angle to get it to fit. The 4.9 engine is 24" long and a 3800 is around 22" long. Add that to the Audi A4/passat trans at around 8" and you can see it adds up fast. You should plan on some heavy modifications to the firewall area and gas tank unless the 944 is a really short engine.
