Not the most powerful and the gearbox is one of the weaker from porsche
adrian
i'm just glad to make the jump to mid engine
have been told parts are more expensive than Type 1 and
probably more than Type 3
I have had 4 Porsche 914s, and extensively autocrossed a 2 litre and won a title with one. They are not expensive to work on, and I had no problems with the gearbox. I had webber carbs on mine with a mild crank, and it was pretty quick. the engines can take a fair amount of abuse, and it will cruise all day at 100mph. Have fun! Steve
They work great together, but if you intend to have a lot of power down the road that box isnt the best choice. Steve how much power were you putting down?
I remember about 160 horsepower, but even though I went through two autocross seasons with the car, and street drove it as well, I had no trouble with the drive train. Steve
I also had a friend with the same car with a chev 350 mated up to the same gearbox, and it did fine without modification. Steve
steve

steve 914
next time i go by where it is
i'll check on it.
i'm pretty firm on 914 because
with say VW Type 3 or Corvair that
thing about turning over ring and pinion
after you turn drivetrain around to mid engine
doesn't sound too good to me.
used as example Type 3 because i know where there's one sitting w/auto trans i think
and at VW shop there was another 914.
thanks for encouragement!
