OK never mind. I figured it out.

I used a little redneck ingenuity.

My homebuilt press was too short to fit the steering shaft so I was looking around my yard for an idea. I was looking at my trailer hitch and thought hummmm. So I brought out my floor jack, jacked up the vehicle on the axle, put the steering column under the hitch and lowered the jackÖ.. TaÖ.da. I did have to jump up and down on the back of the vehicle as well but it collapsed 2 inches.

    Iím smiling now!

when i shortened/lengthened a Dart steering shaft in the 80's.

i took two shafts to machine shop.

    they cut them square.

then a REALLY GOOD welder welded them together.

i think i lost the 'collapsable' safety feature.

i was only one driving Dart and it went off to the crusher.

so nobody's running around out there in an unsafe Dart.

    Have A Nice Day!
