Porsche 944 transaxle the same as the Audi 5000?

I found a 944 transaxle locally and the ad says it is the same one as the Audi 5000 transaxle. I know the 944 had the trans in the back with a solid shaft and housing to it but it sure looks the same.

I have been looking on the net but not been able to find the confirmation one way or the other. I have a pic of the 944 trans but my iPad won't let me select a pic in the manage uploads page... I will get one up later.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks
    Don

It does not have the slave cylinder mount or the proper input shaft for the clutch.
The parts inside are the same

The audi transaxle is the same as the 944.The 944 doesn't have a place for the starter, throw out bearing or starter. The gearing is better on the 944 and NOW there is an adapter to Bolt it directly to an LS engine using the LS flywheel ,starter and a hydraulic throw out bearing. If you need more information email me. Thank You Gary
