    Lambo rear-view Camera/Monitor

Anyone have any luck with prices and suppliers of cameras and flat screen monitors for rear vision ? 5.5" screen would be o.k.(7" better) and the flip down console type would be nice. I checked out the local R.V. shop and they were nearly $800....Nothing at local Radio-shack...any ideas?
    Thanks

Any local stereo shop should be able to help with your dilemma. I think that Roger at RKSdesign.net has some lying around if not he can get them easily.

    Re: Lambo rear-view Camera/Monitor

Well this is what i was going to do,

When i complete my project im going to install a complete computer system in the car from gnet canada www.gnetcanada.com They offer a product called the Revolution which is something along the lines of a celeron cpu at 900mhz i think, 256sdram etc. Anywho this device is like a desktop PC however more small and compact, gnet also offers LCD monitors fro 4' to 10.2' is think is their new one. Anywho, it features plug and play capabilites like Firewire, and USB ports and analog ports. So heres what im going to do instead of wasting $10,000 on some random professional thing. Install the cpu with Monitor, that install lets say a little web cam or something like that in the rear deck lide, or behind the licence plate, what ever. than use USB extension lines from the cam, to where the CPU is mounted in the vehicle. No fuss no muss lolz

    What you guys think?

I plan on doing something like what Racing Trends is planning. Problem is, the picture will be reversed.
They make products specifically for a rear-view camera setup that reverses the image and everything. I would get that but I would prefer to have a complete computer system.

I would suggest reading the forums at www.mp3car.com

There are lots of dedicated/knowledgable guys that have turned this (putting a computer into a car) into a major project. This will be something that I will install in my car as well (GPS, DVD, MP3 playback, cameras, etc).

One word of caution, read the discussion boards there before you post. A lot of newbies ask basic questions and you will only get a "use the search function" response. I have a small FAQ on my site about 'carputers' to get you started. This won't be a simple bolt together project. Like I said, there are LOTS of decisions to be made: motherboard type (power and heat concerns), type of power (DC from batery, or DC-inverter-DC), what kind of front-end (OS-user interface) etc. On the other hand, the people that put the most owrk into it really come out with good loking and highly functional setups. Some guy even has his carputer controlling little servos (climate control, etc). I have spent days reading the forums and have put it to the side because it will be a project in itself.

I got it. The discount hound on e-bay. They have two nice color 5.6" flip down set ups...one tan with no remote and a grey/black with remote.$ I went with the remote...159.00.
The camera is from a co. called carentertain on yahoo shopping ..it,s called a mini color cmos camera...$62. i did a search for a cc-2 camera. I think that set up will work..I'll let you know when installed.

O.K. got the mini color camera and monitor and wired it up. It works great ...now if I was only ready to put it in for good.
That was the best deal I could find for color and the flip down screen with with dome lights.

Is everything reversed? If I stand behind and to your right,,,wouldn't your screen show me on the left? Is there a reverse switch or something to correct this? Also,,,,in a parallel universe,,,,,,am I still typing? And in that universe,,,typing at the speed of light,,,,,would I be able to see what I type? But I digress,,,,,,,,,,,,,, 8)
