    convertible subframe

I asked before but never got a good answer. if doing a box frame (with removable center) where do you weld on bottom? I guess it really comes down to how wide the box is. does it go all the way over to the rockers or down the braces that more or less split each of the passenger and driver sides in halfs?
What was I thinking??!!  I could have a VR4 Spyder for this kind of money.

Mine was spot welded to the floor pan but it
"wraps" around the front floor pan and rear firewall
up about 5 inches .. and is spot welded there too..

    sort of like..

I know that you will still need some side reinforcements to make the chassis stable. Without the side parts pictured, the car is very sloppy, the door gap will bind when lifted and jacked. Might even crack your windshield.

    Re: convertible subframe

Here is my over-engineered sub frame thread. I don't have any real flex left and I stilll have one set of braces to go up the firewall from the centre console back portion to remove the past of the firewall flex although there isn't very much of that at all. Maybe 1/8" now at the top of the firewall and no side to side flex that I can tell.

Haven't seen how it reacts with full engine and trans weight yet though. If I ever get out to the garage instead of sitting on here looking for other ways to add to the car and never get it on the road, I might just see.

    Cheers
    Don
