Just purchased 96 LT-1! need advice on Trany

    Ok everyone,

    I just purchased my 96 LT-1.
50k miles on it and the motor
    is very complete.

    Now, it is trany time.

Some of you have said a Audio 5000
trany would be good with some kind
    of adapter kit.

I know there are some old threads
on the board, but I would like some
    fresh postings regarding the trany.

I do not need it to be Audio, I just
want one that will work well and not
cost me too much to rebuild/replace.

    Great!

    I really appreciate any info.

A porshe 914 transaxle can be made really strong with a thicker plate on the gear box housing. *Roger at RKSdesign.net can help with that. *He has the plates machined out of aluminum jst for that aplication.

    Just need to clarify something,

Are you going to build a kit? or are you just dropping it into your fiero? because for either one you can use the Fiero GETRAG transmission, however i think it was you that posted a thread a few days ago in the mall asking for an unfinished Diablo kit, right? anywho for a kit, its your call, for a transverse mounted tranny best bet would to grab a Getrag from either 86GT-88GT i think right? anywho thier like all over the place, might wanna check Pennocks for that. For a Longitude mounted tranny, like DJRO_247 said before, a Porsche 914 transaxle will do the trick, however if you are using a high horsepower motor you might wanna go with something like a 930 porsche motor which can handle up to 725Hp. Here is a list of Longitude trannys that would be suitable: its kinda small, i know there are a bit more options out there.

    Tranny model
    -911(porsche) 915
    -930
    -950 G50,G50-50
    -Audi 84-87 5000,5000s,turbo
    -Eagle medallion 97-89 R25 or UN1

    Transverse Trannys
    -Getrag 282
    -Getrag 284
    -V8 Archie kit conversion kit

I hope this somewhat helps, by the way, where did you purchase your LT-1? a friend of mine is looking for one.

Marcello your friend might want to contact Roger at RKS aswell he buy's and sells lt1's and ls6's all the time. As for the strenth thing the special plate on the side of the gear box is developed from a drag racing volkswagon bug that had an estimated 1200 horsepower. It used the regular transaxle with the thicker plate and beefier axles. The origional plate holds the gears and isn't thick enough for higher horsepower applications. The new plate is thicker and stronger so it can hold the power. The reason the 914 is used is avalibility. They are a dime a dozen and can be made strong cost effectively.

    Hi!

    > Are you going to build a kit?
Yes, the LT-1 is for a Lambo Diablo

I will be installing the LT-1 and tranny inline
    Longitudinally.

I have looked up some prices for porsche trannys
and they are expensive , including the adapter kits,
compared to say Audio trannys may be - still need
info on the adapter for Audio too.

I just have a 96 LT-1 and it is less than
400 HP. I think the Audio will handle that much
but I am not expert at all about trannys.

Anyone else have some info on tranny and/or
    adapter kits?

Do you have any info on where I can find 914s and
the rebuild/ adapter kits for it?

After many kind emails and posts from all of you
it looks like I am going with Audi 5000 S tranny.

My local bone yard has one untouched.

Can any of you give me some advice on
what I should be getting off of the car when
I have them pull the tranny for me?
