    Cutting my roof off today!

I'm cutting my roof off today! Does anyone have anything to warn me about before I do this? I don't have any directions on where to cut some I'm using my logic - In the rear, I'll be cutting it basically at the bottom of the rear windshield, so that *you wouldn't be able to tell there was a windshield there at all in the firstplace. At the front, (I have a sunroof), I am cutting it at the *two side pieces which connect the front windshield area to the rear window area... I know i'm not being so maybe this will help a little...

    Sawzall Saws ALL

I'd just buy one and use it until the job is done. After that, sell it! After the math, you'll have saved Money!!!

If memory serves, with the IFG kit, you will need to cut the front frame rails somewhere in front of the wheels. Weld and add an extension and relocate the headlamp mechanisms. That was the one thing the IFG kits and my Mirage had in common. In addition, there is material to be removed around the rear end.

That's all I remember for now... I think that's it though.

I was thinking of just renting from Home Depot, but I guess I'll try the pawn shops first!
Also, if your in the U.S., Ebay has a ton listed (of course, us Canadians would need to pay Duty Fees and taxes and crazy amounts of shipping fees so ebay is more or less out of the question...)

    Ari:

I think it might be best to weld a support or something along the frame rails to stiffen the car before cutting the roof off. The roof is a structural member and the car will have a tendency to bend in the middle or the doors bind after the kit is installed. I have seen a few kits that suggest an X frame, Mike Vetter used to brace the floor as seen in the attached photo.

    Good luck,

If you're not confused, you're not paying attention.

Re: Cutting my roof off today!

I made the mistake of not welding my x-frame before cutting the roof off and now I have door alignment issues. I have tried to fix it with no luck so now my only option is to start over. Hard lesson to learn. This time I will weld the x-frame in first. I also plan on using a removable center section incase the tank ever needs to come out.
