    82 Corvette Taillights Question (Spyder?)

Does anyone have experience with Corvette taillights? For my 355 replica I recently bought some 82 Corvette Taillights. However I am a little confused how the light lights up the outer red ring vs the inner clear circle. It looks like both parts light up when ever the light comes on. Am I missing a part on the inside like a divider or is it a special kind of bulb? I don't have the bulbs yet. Let me know if my question is unclear.

Spyder - I know you used these lights so maybe you can "enlighten" us.

There was another thread not too long back addressing this very question... Let's see if we can find it

    Hi DKOV-

I asked a similar question a while back on what parts of the lights should come on for turn signals, brakes, reverse, etc.

This question is how do I get just the outer red ring to light up or just the inner clear part? It looks like it all lights up together(red outer circle and clear inner circle) because there is no divider. I will take pictures tonight to show you what I mean.

I found this thread where spyder says he uses red light bulbs so the clear part lights up red as well.

It is really great when people share the details of their build. And thanks Ari for giving us a forum to do it.

Re: 82 Corvette Taillights Question (Spyder?)

I used that year Corvette lights 79ish-82, (can’t afford real lights at this time) *I ended up using all back up lights,(all clear centers) with led bulbs and replaced the sockets. *I used thick fuel line as a gasket to have the lights stick out further on the back (after test fitting, silicon the gaskets) and use long bolts to hold them out there. My car had the buckets in the back for the lights. So I just cut a hole in the center of each bucket just big enough for the sockets to go through. I had cut the rear of the trunk to where it made two fold downs to access the taillights.
Ok, on the taillights I had to trim some of the plastic rods that protrude from the back of the lights, also I used my cutoff wheel to trim the drain so the gasket would go against it flush.
Then to finish it off, some red paint on the heads of the bolts.
The look at night is really neat and different.
I hope this all made sense, if not, let me know.
This first pick bellow was a test fitting before using the gaskets.

Spyder, a little off of the subject but do you notice a great deal of bump steer with your 2" spacers??

My suspension rides Rough right now...she hasn’t been dialed in yet. Took her to tire shop Saturday, it wouldn’t fit on their alignment machine. So sometime this next week I ‘m going to try some other places.

I have purchased the " real deal " from Ferrari, I was sitting here looking at them earlier, And I noticed I am goign to need a wriring harness to plug into these things, does anyone know a source for pigtails or and kind of plugs that go into these things ????? they are beautiful and I would hate to have to modify them if there is a way to just plug into them :
