I saw a F355 engine go on Ebay for between 25-30K I didn't see final price. skyline engine is more practical, And yes even though its for a FWD car, it'll still work for the mid engine. Custom axles and fitting it to you cradle it'll work.

If you really wanted to there was a magazine i was subscribed to that had real ferraris for sale. there was an old fiat in there for about $19k and it had the v12 engine in it. dont know if its still there or not i could double check.

Isn't the Skyline engine a turbo charged inline 6? I think it would be too long to put in a Fiero sideways. BTW I'm pretty sure the skyline is RWD or AWD depending on the model. Front engine/Rear drive was one of the big advantages/selling points of that car.

could it be mounted long wise?? if i puy in the RB26DETT i would want to mount it longitudinal any way. and the engine drive all depends on what trans u mount, the rb35dett trans is rear wheel i think and the rb36dett is a all wheel or something along those lines... its not the engine, its what transmission u bolt uo.. or so i think. correct me if i'm wrong.

You would have to make a custom adaptor plate to mount it to an Audi or Porsche transaxle. The Nissan unit would be too long. Check out Kennedy Engineering for some ideas.
