Will it bolt up without an adapter? No... You'll need an adapter to do it, but you can bolt up just about anything with the right adapter.

Sorry, I really can't answer that. Honestly, I don't know what a SMG tranny is

The 914 (aka 901 ) transmission has a really week first gear. Most of what I have read is that it can handle about 200ft/lbs. If you were going with a V8, then the first would be useless anyways becuase it is so low. For the LS* engines, you will need a better transmission than the 30yr old 901.

I agree.. The 911,930 or g50 gearbox is the one to use when working with anything over 250 - 300 HP Its not worth the work that goes into a build to have your gear shaft shear off. Say that tens times! wow even sounds painful

The transaxle you are seeking is a model 915, 5 speed. The model 914 is a 4 speed. It has nothing to do with the 914 body style that uses the 915 transaxle. You will need to have the ring gear flipped to the other side. This is the same transaxle used in the Audi and Porsche 944 (different configurations though). It cost me about $900 to have the ring gear flipped and shimmed (They use the Audi or 944 parts to do this trick). The 944 has the proper (wide) first gear to take up to 450 HP. Then you need to make your axle shafts. I used PST in Clearwater, Florida to do this part $400.

Kennedy Engineering make the adapter, flywheel and clutch assembly for the conversion. It costs about $750 for the Kennedy parts, you will need a shifter assembly and cables that cost about $650 from Patrick Racing. You use the Porsche starter motor.

    Hope this helps,

    Dave
