    I want to build a car need some tech info

    Hi i wanted to get started on a car from the fram up. I want to know if you guys have good info i can real up on about a frame build up. I build engine and transmissions already and i have something in mind on the power train. But its mostly frame work and body work. What do you guys use? Fiberglass or plastic? and can anyone give me a link or a ref on where i can get body work made at. Thanks guys

    tube chassis are made of steel obviously, while bodies are made of either fiberglass or carbon fiber ($$$$+) but not 'plastic' as in urethane like they use on many aftermarket bumpers. i suggest you check out www.naerc.com for info on chassis buildup and body fitting. there are many other companies that offer great products, but just for info you can start there.

    Superbird;

    There is a fellow over on Pennock's that I have been following that is building a tube frame that will fit Fiero metal panels and then he plans on putting a Fiero body back on to it with a few mods.

    The thread is here and it is a very intersting build to watch as it has unfolded. I have had thoughts of doing the same type of thing on my next build if I ever get this one finished. Not a lot of tech info but a lot of chat and pictures of the process.

    Good luck.

    yes thats what the guy is doing on that link, building up his own chassis. it's wise to borrow the design from an existing one because it will be rigid, tested for safety and design, and cheaper than guessing. i can guarantee you won't care what the car looks like if you get impaled by part of your chassis in a crash.
