    stretch!! please help

    Ok,
I must be stupid. where do you do the stretch such that the cradle length stays the same? I can't see how you could cut in front of the forward cradle mount. maybe I don't have enough removed?? pictures please!!
What was I thinking??!!  I could have a VR4 Spyder for this kind of money.

There are different ways to stretch the craddle. The craddle is gonna be a little shorter then 3" as well. Here is a picture of mine. Hope this helps

I had the same question about the engine cradle here's what I came up with (instead of cutting the engine cradle)-

using 3"x1/4" flat steel (Home Depot):
    1. cut four 6" pieces-find center(shortways) mark 1.5" on either side of center-find & mark center(longways).
    2. where the lines intersect, drill two 1/2" holes.
    3. place 2 of the pieces on the OUTSIDE of the cradle-to-chassis bracket. on both sides line up 1 of the
cradle-to-chassis bracket holes with one of the corresponding new piece's hole. place a 1/2" grade 8 bolt through the cradle-to-chassis bracket and the pair of extentions.
    4. level the new pieces-clamp and weld to the cradle-to-chassis bracket.
    5. repeat for the other side
    6. run the original bolts through the back holes and the cradle
    torque the nut down

    i hope this helps

    ok,

now the question is do the engine tranny move to the rear with the stretch or stay near the front? also, I assume you must somehow extend or make new tranny mount for at least either the front or rear. or is the stretch made in front of the cross piece?
What was I thinking??!!  I could have a VR4 Spyder for this kind of money.

The stretch is made in front of the cross piece so the engine moves back and still sits on the cradle with out any ajustments. *It is possible to stretch the car without removing the engine. *And you will have an extra 3" to get to those spark plugs. *Of course this also means the transmission cables might not reach the shifter and you made need to extend them.

I have such a difficult time leaving well enough alone! One way to stretch the subframe that several diablo builders have used recently (and remember, they go back 11") is to actually stretch the mounting points on the firewall back. It is pretty easy compared to cutting the subframe. Weld a piece of tubing into the existing mounting tabs then add new tabs on the end of the piece of tubing. Weld in a couple horizontal braces and you are done.

"Days on Wallstreet" is the name of the movie. I've taken pictures of the stretch and added dimensions to the pictures if anyone wants to use our method or just use it for ideas just let me know, I would post the pictures on this forum but I'm not sure how to do it.
