best engine for f355 replica fiero????????

many of you know im gonna get me a 355 kit on my fiero.
i will have the looks and style but i wont have nearly 1/4 of the performance with this 2.5 liter engine.

ive been researching all motor swaps and i want to get about 300+ h.p. but i dont want to spend an arm and a leg and my soul to achive it.

ive looked all over and there are really only 3 engines that i want to get in my fiero as of now which are:

a whitehorse v6 they claim to achive 300 hp
a quad four high output 180 hp plus a turbo 325 hp
or the 3400 DOHC 215 hp with mods easily reaches 300 h.p.

ive ruled out a small block v8 simply because of weight and i really dont like the fact that the waterpump is in the wheel well and gas mileage will be a HUGE issue.

i want a high revving motor and i know that the 3400 can do 7000 rpm and the quad 4 can do the same i really dont know of the whitehorse v6 but i think 6500 to 7000 isnt farfetched.

what do you think will be the best engine swap for a fiero?????????

i really want to simulate the sound of a 355 but not spend 35 thousand on a engine!!! like a 355 engine
also i want to have fair gas mileage.!!!!!!

all people that have done swaps what do yall have in yours?????
and what did it cost you to put it in???????
    and your horsepower?

    thanks

First rule out Whitehorse. I have talked with several people, which I consider experts, about the 2.8 getting 300 hp like whitehorse claims. It is damn near impossible with any sort of reliablity.

Next forget gas milage. Yeah you don't want to get 3 blocks to the gallon, but whats the real difference between 18 mpg and 25 mpg? Not much, a few bucks a week. If that is going to stop you from doing a kit then you already are too short on funds.

Finally, use what engine suits you. I don't need to go 150 been there wrecked that. I do want 0-60 5.2 or less. For me it seems that the 4.9L is the best way to go.

Or you could go the DKOV route and buy a real ferrari engine and install it. Well everything else on his car is oem why not the engine :P

Go with the stock V6 first, and get the car built and on the road. If you want more later, then do it. Remember that not many cars can touch a fiero from 0-30, it's just after 30mph they fly past you like a sling shot.
    my 2 cents

I'm with spyder on this one - invest $40 in a K&N Air Filter, drive the V6 into the ground, the drop in something more powerful.

I agree with what Spyder and Ari are saying, Go with the stock V6 for now. You can always upgrade later, I am upgrading from the 2.5 to the 2.8 in my Countach for now. Until I decide on a better engine down the road , I am thinking N* later on.

Ok then... In my opinion the 3.4 DOHC that DKOV has would be your best bet - its a v6 but has the closest thing to a ferrari sound of out of any of the swaps.

Re: best engine for f355 replica fiero????????

I have researched this area. I'm going with the 3.4 or Quad 4.

    Quad 4 High Output W41 (190hp) with Turbo (325hp) *
    $7000 + $1200 for Getag 282 5 Speed

    3.4 DOHC (215hp) with Engine Mods (280hp-320hp)
    $8000 + $1500 for Getag 284 5 Speed

3.8 Series II (210hp) With Stage II Supercharger (285hp)
    $8000 + $1500 for Getag 284 5 Speed

The above is why most kit builders don't touch the engine. It will increase your costs from $25,000 to $35,000. Still 1/4 the costs for the original car but some people can't go that extra $10,000. However, If you have the cash go for it. *

Between the Held Motor Sports Wide Track, 13" big brake package, 3.4 Dohc swap and engine mods & various Ferrari OEM parts, I'm praying I can get it done for $38,000-$40,000.

The bulk of the money is in the prep work. I'll do the various grits of dry & wet sanding myself, and deliver the car in "just spay" condition. Ill also do the buffing of the clear coat after the paint cures my self.

If I paint it Red with cream/black interior:
    Black Primer
3 coats of Ferrari Red base
    3 coats of Clear

If I paint it silver with red/black interior:
    White Primer
3 coats of Titanium base mixed with pearl chips
1 coat clear mixed with metalic chips
    3 coats of clear

it shouldnt come out to more than 1,500-2,000 just to spray it.
