    Porsche Boxter transmission Q&A

Has anyone researched a longitudinal install using the Boxter transmission? I noticed that it's a mid-engine layout as opposed to the 911's rear engine, hence no ring gear flipping I assume. Are block mountings similar to the 911? Since this is a mid-engine tranny perhaps this is a better choice than the 911 trans.

I'm sure people have used it. I know the most popular is the Porsche G50 Transmission. That might be the way I go. I might buy a 427 LS7 cranking out 616 HP from LPE. I'll need a good strong tranny to hold all that power and torque. :-\

What mid-engine car are you building?

The Boxster trans is only good for 250 - 300 BHP, although in a mid engine config its not widely used, so no off the shelf adapters for it.
Better of going for the 911 G50 models although they need to be flipped can take 400 to 500 dependant on which version, some even more.
    I am hooking up an LS1 to a G50

The Boxster and Audi use the same transaxle. The biggest difference from what I can find out (I considered using that set up in FunnyWheels) was the first gear in the transaxle was thinner and not as strong as the G50. There is also an issue with the thrust bearings pushing out through the case. Lambo Lounge has an article on how to make a steel plate to fit this transaxle if you are interested.
If you're not confused, you're not paying attention.
