Front track increase or meatier tyres??? Which would be better....??

    Hi all,

If you were doing an IMSA fiero widebody which would give you better handling, a front track increase or slapping on wider tyres?? Each side of the fender flares for the front is 1 and 1/4 inches wider then stock fiero....... Whcih would you choose and if you could give a reason as to why you chose that, please tell me, or us....lol.......

I would say wide track suspenson and fat tires loke the IMSA Fiero.

    HI all,

Can you put meaty tyres on a widetrack front suspension? I mean if you were to put 1 inch longer arms on the front, how wide of a rim could you fit?

Me= know nothing about this area of automotive.......

You can put wider tires on the front and the back with your wide track. I recommend wide track suspension as well since you have a significantly altered turn pattern with spacers depending on their thickness.

Going with wider tires and therefore rims to fit them, works as long as you have the offset of the rims set up properly so that your bearings and your hub sits in the proper position as per original specs. Putting rims on with a dractically different offset will wear your bearings more quickly as the torque and wear on them is differnet than a neutral offset which is usually stock. Dave Newmann uses spacers on his car rear to clear the rear shock tower with the oem rims but they actually set the rear hub in a pretty neutral position so actually help with that aspect of the postioning.

Once you go wider in the suspension, you also have to ensure you have the clearance in the fender wells for wider tires for both turning and shock travel.

    Cheers

    Hi all,

Funnywheels, was the side molding trim on the IMSA fiero's you've seen, or like the pics above, have the smooth molding or is it the ribbed molding?

The car in the photo is an IMSA Fiero and is in race trim. The trim is smooth like that of the Fiero Production GT.

Don't forget the more tire you put to the outside of the ball joint, the harder it will be to steer, especially when going slow. Possibly a combination of lengthened arms and offset wheels will be the best bet. Depends on how much wider you're talking.

    Hi all,

Held motorpsorts offers a track increase from 1 to 3 inches, and the front fender flares offer a max of 1 1/4 inches on each side, so I just thought of using a 1 inch wider front suspension....

Wider tires usually widens the track also. I also noticed that the 355 was the last of the V8 Ferraris that had a wider rear track than front track.
