    AD 355 Fixing seem fixing

    The quarter panel seem is splitting on my AD 355. I talked to John and he said to grind away the gel coat 1/2" on both sides of the seem and fiberglass and 1" strip. This way the seem will not crack in the future.

    What is the best and/or easiest way to fix this?

    Grind the gel coat away on each side of the split as John advised. Take a dremel tool or a grinding wheel or whatever you want that will take the top 1/6 - 1/8" off so you can lay in the glass strip. Careful not to get too deep so you don't go through the panel but make sure it is deep enough to get the fiberglass mat into the sunken area you made and then you can skim over with some fibergalss gel and bondo to smooth the panel back to original.

    If you don't do that, there will always be a seam that will crack on you and drive you crazy. Everywhere I did that before I learned, the panels I cut up on my project were cracking on me as I worked on them. I have since gone back to make the strip over the seams and I have had no problems.

    Good luck

    I will have to do the same on the door scoops also then. I would hate to get cracks here.

    Don't worry, once you fix it, it will stay without cracking along the seams again.

    It about a 2 cigar job. Be thankful you don't have a canvas top to build.

    I lost count a few years back. I do enjoy those whan working on the car for some strange reason. Most of the time I don't botther with them but when you are working on it or driving around it somehow seems to fit the mood.

    Right Don!

    Dave;

    I can honestly say I don't feel the mood for a cigar at any time of my day......

    The cubans you won off of Dan (Powerhouse) a few years ago already must have tasted extra fine but you can keep 'em..... ;D

    Cheers

    Don:

    I have slowed way down on the Stogies over the past few years.

    Thanks again for personally dropping them off at my home.

    Best regards,

    Dave
