What to use for threshold plates? [doorsill/step plates]

I guess they are called by a lot of names. Attaches to the doorsill to finish it off. Building a Koenig TR and I am wondering what everyone else has used.

I started with 1/4" fiberboard I was going to fiberglass over to seal and smooth out but I now plan on making a fiberglass panel around the same thickness and bonding that in place. Should be done this weekend so I will post pics before and after when I am done.

I have also seen metal used to cover the gap between the door sill and the new outer edge of the rocker. This might be a bit stronger and require less bracing underneath than I have for my rockers.

    Cheers

    Dale:

I laid up some fiberglass usung my old Fiero rear glass for the mold. I then cut a cardboard template to fit the area between the rocker panel and the chassis. Once the pattern was made, I transferred it to the now hardened fiberglass. I put the smooth side up to provide a good surface to paint when finished. I then bolted the Fiero side to the car and neatly bonded the new panel to the fiberglass rocker. It worked very well and was light weight when finished as well as strong enough to stand upon. To do the opsite side of the car, I flipped the pattern over.

Thanks Dave. That is probably what I will do as well. However, I'm surprised that someone has not used factory step plates from some vehicle for the factory look. Come to think of it..... What is the factory look? Anyone have pics of a TR step plate/sill area?

Dale, Testarossas' come with a polished aluminum plate with TESTAROSSA (if I remember right)etched into it for the door sill. I looked at some a long while ago, backed away from the price, and simply made a template, and cut out some 'lined' rubber mat. It actually turned out better than expected, no scratching of paint and easy to buff up for shows.

Sandy, I like that rubber mat idea. That is one wide rocker to keep your heels from scratching.
