which engines fit's directly on the fiero's m/5??

I've been looking around for engine swaps, and with most engines you'll also have to swap the transmission. This is my first build is actually I think I should take it easy

I found this on a site:

    Engines That FIT...

    Chev 3.1L and 3.4L V6 (almost a direct swap)
    Pontiac 3.4L DOHC (215hp)
    Olds/Buick 3800 V6 (205hp)
    Olds/Buick 3800 V6 Supercharged (240hp)
GM Chev 350 V8 (hp anything you want)
    Cadillac Northstar 32-valve V8 (315hp)
can you guys confirm this and tell me which engines with without a lot of trouble on the manual 5 gear transmission from the '88 fiero?

And can you tell me in which cars these engines are used?! (that will make looking for one a lot easier for me)

Hey AAP, welcome to the forum! Give Loyde Rascoe a call or email at: FastbackFieroV8@aol.com
He is a great guy and does engine conversions, he can answer most questions and even DO the swap for you. I'm luck that I'm only 45 minutes away from his shop. He'll be doing my 3.4 DOHC swap hopefully in a feew months.

Well, if you knew alot about engines and transmissions and were attempting to make a f355 replica. I would suggest putting in a audi v8(not a8, v8. It's called v8, and the engine is a v8 ) 3.6 liter quad cam, 5 valve per cylinder. Longitudinally set with porsche 930 transmission, it would make a cool engine to have. Though it's slightly shy of 300 horsepower, and the intake manifold is a little different.

But, you said you wanted to keep with the 5spd. Lt1's seem to be a pretty easy swap that utilizes the fiero transmission.

    lt1: corvette, firebird, camaro... Fbody.

www.v8archie.com has more information about the subject.

    thx Chris...that's some good info...

The audi/porsche combo seems cool, but I'm worried about screwing up and throwing a lot of money away. Do you need a kit to mate the audi V8 with the porsche 930?
And how many gears does the 930 transmission have?

If I can't find anything else, I'll take the LT1...

930 I do believe has six gears, and I do believe you would have to fabricate your own adapter plate, etc. out of billet aluminium or steel, and use a porsche 930 clutch and flywheel(I think). *I think the lt1 kit archie offers would be an easier solution.

(I might have been mistaken about how many cam's it has. Though on the valve covers of the engine it says 4 ohc. It looks to be only 2 cam gears. Refering to the audi engine.)

My mistake on the valves as well, it's 4 valve per cylinder.

If you have an email, or aim i'd be happy to send you a picture of the engine in question.

    thx...my email is Ruud_Eichhorn@hotmail.com

Where can I find info on fabricating an adapter plate for the 930 transmission? (or even better, info on fabricating adapter plates for anything?)

    thx...looks pretty good...

I'm wondering how much this engine (and a porsche 930 transmission) will cost me...saw a complete Audi V8 in good condition for 4500 euro

Anyone have any info on the adapter plate stuff?

I may be wrong(I dont have alot of experience with mating opposite transmissions to opposite engines), but I think it's just a plate that has two set of bolt holes, one for the transmission bolts, and one for the engine bolts. So you can bolt it all together.
