    gelcoat problem

I have hairline cracks in the gelcoat on my 355 wing and tried to repair it by sanding the gelcoat off this area and then filling it with bondo .It looked fine at the time so i painted it and now they,ve come back tru. Should i have dug out the cracks and filled them with resin any help will go along way cheers

If this happens in my industry which is GRP enclosures / Buildings we use a product called Crestomer. Its a two part resin in a twin axial tube which you will need a gun for,and is self mixing. Resin+catalyst.
Its costs about 20/tube. Its specifically formulated for GRP and will not crack. We also use it for structural bonding and gap filling and is made by scott bader.
This stuff is awsome, beleive me. Take a small grinder to the cracks, clean with acetone, fill with Crestomer and sand back, and re-paint.

It must be a deeper fracture. If the gelcoat is too thick in certain areas it's more prone to cracking. I would grind deeper & fill with a layer of glass/ kitty hair. Check panel thickness in that area, it may be too thin, or too thick with resin & not enough glass.

iVE never tried it but the data sheets suggest its ok to use. try a sample piece first. as far as bonding grp to grp, theres nothing stronger IMO.
