Here is a rough sketch over the photo, an attempt to begin to see what might be possible with this chassis.

I'm Liking this one... Think of a workable roof option too

Thanks, Powerhouse.

Here is another sketch, over the Sterling package. It has kind of an old sprint car look, I guess... very mechanical.

Another sketch in color (Photoshop). I think my hood panel should extend up farther on the windshield but otherwise it isn't too bad.

It is easier to get ideas if I don't sketch right over the chassis photo. If a design looks interesting, it can then be drawn over the photo, for a more relevant proportion. I will take the best into Photoshop for quick renderings.
I have a Wacom Cintique tablet monitor so I can render right on the screen. A few of the earlier sketches were even drawn on the tablet. However most of these are drawn with pen (Niji Stylist or Pilot Fineliner) on 9x12 vellum and scanned.
Comments are welcome.

I wonder if that space frame will fit on an Aztec 7 body. Smiley

It will be a lot easier for you if you just take a side photo of Smart Roadster and start from there Wink

I don't think the Smart Roadster is what I am looking for.

... here's a faster windshield and some color on the last sketch.

I am still working on this thing and making great progress - but I am holding onto my latest artwork for now.
The main thing for my project at this point is research on possible chassis options. I am not into nor particularly expert at the mechanical side of this so am looking for a good, relatively turn-key chassis. Building a body is enough to deal with for me. On the other hand, it is like getting blood from a stone to get any decent chassis information or LO drawings, probably because they just don't have it in a usable format. Maybe they do but don't want to share it. I can understand that, given the nature of this business, where intellectual property is often considered fair game.
Anybody with chassis ideas or specific information would be very welcomed.
Thanks!

The research continues... I am trying to get sources for various components and am hopeful you guys can help.
I am looking for products and services in San Diego, or at least southern California.
I will need someone who can weld up a roll structure to exact specs. The curvature of the tubing and its placement has to be quite exact, especially in the windshield area. Tube bending tends to be straight element/ bent corners but I need gentle curves in a few places as well as being able to rely on the tubes closely fitting whatever production windshield I end up with.
The vehicle will probably be on a VW pan/special suspension with a turbo Subaru 4cyl engine and 091 bus transaxle. Any sources for these kinds of components would be VERY welcome.
Thanks in advance!
