  • My special vw kit car build

Well I guess its time to share my build, so I also can get you guys help
Know the most of the cars here are super sports cars, but im starting small.
Both because of cost, rules in my country, and to learn som tricks.

The donor is a 1970 Beetle 1500, wich will need some work when the body is finished.

The body is a swedish kit from the 80's, its called Sethera, and where made in a very limited quantity.

    Some pics:

    And the process begins:

Some swedish idiot have put all that shit on it. Proberly to make it fit to a twisted pan.
    Got it of and continued:

Flamingo, tape, filler and black bags where my friend to make a temporary template.
Now it fits on the vw bottom, twist, and places where there where air between has bin corrected.

Plan is to make doors next, and need some advice on the best hinges to that. They cant fill to much.

Nice kit tried to get one of those into Canada once, looks like you know what your doing so far.
I would advise fitting your windshield in before doing the doors (temporary) as the pillars are a weak point and twist. The windshield will temporarily keep our door opens in shape while you do the doors. IMHO
It maybe a little soon but have to decided on a color for it ???
    Good Luck and keep posting.

That could be a good idea. Even though they seem to be strong, and someone have installed a wood piece inside to temporary support.

No color yet, it shall be finished with only the things needed to pass inspection (hopefully)

From what I can see. It looks like you found a nicely made kit. Good luck with your adventure. I always liked stuff made with VW parts. It's also instering how there is still a ton of new parts around.

The door gaabs when fitted either in top or bottom.
Any solutions other then to cut and correct?
Have meassured the door room, still need and idea to hinges, any there have ideas ?

Re: My special vw kit car build

I love those old school VW kits. I've always wanted to build an Aztec7 as my first car but never got around to it but the ZL1 Camaro is close enough.

Anyone have more info on this body kit? It looks like something out of an 80's cartoon.

Personally with regards to the doors,go the same way most builders do, as your doors are 2 skin that helps, I would make a metal framework inside your inner door, that fits the body, that way you can then bond the inner door panel to it and it will stay in shape, once you can open the door and close it correctly, have mounted all the door internals, then finally you can mount the outer skin and, bond together and deal with door gaps etc,
Goodluck, and well done so far

Apperntly there isnt room for a frame in the top. of the door, at least not one in tubes.
But will have look at it again, the idea with installing the inner door first is good.

Not much, other then it was made in Sweden in the 80's, and there where made about 200 pcs in the diffrent styles (this is style 1)
And that the molds was later on sold to the Netherlands.
I havent bin able to find much info on it other then that, so if any one knowes it I would like to hear it.

Looking at your pics, although the inner door is only the lower half, I would suggest a top frame, even if its steel rod due to space as the front quarter window will need strength as well, cant see any other way, once the frame is in place and your ready to bond the outer skin you will have something to bond the top part of the skin too.

Yeah we are also talking about that. But we have another problem, we would have liked the doors to open normally, but they cant. So they need to open in lambo style, but how do we do that the easiest and cheapest way?
