      Ah, I figured it out. cheap metal from lowes, kept poping and killing my arc. i used some other stock and all was well. must have been coated or plated with something.

        Glad to hear you got it figured Tig welding can be so frustrating. It took me a long time to get it down, I ended up
        going to the place I bought it from and talked to the service guy. he explained how different metals act to the arc and how
        to prepare the tungstun. Settings, how much gas I should sheild with, type of gases. Prepping the material, I thought this is too much but after a while it was well worth it. the quality is unbeatable. If you ever need any help, feel free.
