  • 3D models?

    Hello all!

I have read that 3D model cars can be extracted from video games and put into a CAD program to make patterns for making full size body plugs. Is this correct? Do you have to be a computer expert to do it?
I have Need For Speed II and was wondering how or if I could extract some of the cars from it? I have worked with CAD before but don't know how to get a car from the game to the CAD program. ???Can anyone shed some light on the subject?

Thanks in advance for any info.

      Re: 3D models?

I've been doing a little playing around since I read this post this morning. This is what I've come up with so far.
I went to a site called NFSCars (http://site.nfscars.com/). There I downloaded a couple of programs, a VIV editor, and ZModeler 1.06. I took a car file from the site and loaded it into the VIV editor. There I exported the car body from a file with *.fce as the ending. I then imported that into the ZModeler program. Once there, I exported it to a *3ds file. Once you have a *3ds file it can be imported into any "good" 3-d program, such as 3D Studio, or Rhino 3d (which is what I'm using).

I'm sure there is an easier way to go, but I haven't seen it yet. ;D
