Maybe it's not a complicated mod, but I still have a hard time picturing it. The McLaren mechanism is one smooth motion. Most Vertical door kits are a 2-step motion, which is anything but smooth.

The reason most kits are a 2-step motion is because they want to retain the factory latch mechanism and do not want to modify the door and door jamb for the required clearance. That requires the door to open a certain amount before it can be raised. If you eliminate that 'requirement', then it allows for the single step, smooth motion you desire. True Lambo doors open vertically, the kits open horizontally, then vertically. This only requires a hinge replacement, not a hinge and latch replacement combined modifying the door and door jamb to prevent the door hitting the body. Most vehicles would require a significant amount of bodywork to use the true vertical door operation. You might be able to get away with minimal to no door and body mods with a 'butterfly' door operation as compared to a vertical door. The hinge design will be the key... the movement has to move the door outward to clear the body first. That is why the hinge arms have a "J" shape instead of just a simple hinge. Some trunk hinges have similar hinge, J-arms and motion, except in a lighter duty form. The trunk lid moves away from the body as it rotates open.

Wish I could see the hinge below the body panels. You're right it's really hard to see.
