Front Mount Engine to Rear Mount (QUESTION)

    Here are pictures of my shift setup, with a Acura K20A2 engine/6 speed MT. The stock cables are now routed from the front and the shifter (Hybrid Racing) is running the cables rearward. I had to cut off a little counterweight on one of the shifter pivots but it still works good.

    If you use any transverse FWD engine transmission combination the engine will be slightly in front of the rear axle line. That should be what you want for weight distribution purposes. I am not sure what you mean by "mid-rear". You can use the original shifter and just mount the cable so they come from the rear of the shifter and then fabricate a mount for them at the transmission.     The shifter will work just as it did with the engine in the front of the car. You are just moving it back and not turning it around or inverting it. The cables will run from the shifter to the rear instead of to the front and everything will work just the same as it did in the original position. You just need longer cables and to fabricate the cable mounts.

    The Honda engines (K20A, etc.) are actually slightly in front of the front wheels in the production layout, so these will become a mid-engine when moved to the rear.
    There are various ways to set up the shifter cables but the best is probably to run the cables from the front side, hooked up to a shifter that is backward. Each of these mods reverses the shift pattern and a twice reversed pattern becomes normal again. You need to make a bracket for the shift cables coming from the front side but that isn't so hard.

    If he relocates a normally front engine setup to the rear by a sub-frame/etc. won't it be more "rearward" since in the front setup it's usually between the front wheels and back a little towards the passenger cabin, so in moving the whole setup to the rear it would be rear heavy weight distribution? Also with moving the whole setup including the trans how would you then setup to continue using the transmission to shift?

    Why would you want to trade out the Honda engine? you could build it and get alot of HP out of those engines, not to mention they sound more exotic than a V8!

    Most of the kits using those kind of engines/transmissions end up using specific suspension components, including the uprights and half shafts. My RCR SL-R would be typical. That is a lot of development on those unique parts however.

    You should buy a whole Civic and take the drive train, wire harness and every other odd and end you need to make it work on your chassis.

    I’m not familiar with Honda’s but you may be able to use the entire drive line, sub frame and suspension attached to it.

    Is the Honda Civic a front wheel drive car? You can pretty much use any front wheel drive engine/trans and relocate it to the rear of the car.
