    Re:Convertible top hell.

Here is the look I am trying to achieve compared to the real 355. Note the curved rear form above the rear window. On the front, notice how the top tucks down into the windshield forming a smooth line between the cloth on the top and the painted header over the windshield. Most kits have a hump over the windshield and the roof is to low and squared off in the back as the sail panels run to the rear of the car. I am just about ready to start to design one we all can use that has a original equipment header and the balance made to work with a Fireo Kit.

WHOA!!! ;D If you can design something similar to the above i'm pretty sure you could generate some serious sales on here and ebay.......

Outside of the CK3 512tr (custom job) I have never seen a Fiero kit with a convertible that is remotely close to what you're looking for.

My $7000+ for Watson's kit is currently in a holding pattern until I can locate a quality top.

          Re:Convertible top hell.

I GOT IT ) I took a litle time away to cool down. And while I was outside looking at my mr2 I started to look at the convetible top then I started looking at my 355 and it hit me like a brick. I have a way to make the convetible top that will be flush with the fiero and fold like a ferrari and possible electicly too. Because of my schedule it will take a while but give me 30-days and I will have a completed top.

            Re:Convertible top hell.

All of you guys still have the top after you chopped it right? Well basicly this I found a way to turn part of the roof that was cut into a header. And from there I have designed a way to build the part around the window using the original fiero window weather strip seal (making it tight not flappy like pauls exotics). In a few weeks I will post pics so everyone knows what I am rambling about and not think that I am crazy. (liks my friends think about me buildong this kit).

                Re:Convertible top hell.

As a temporary solution, until I figure out a folding mechanism, my plan is to construct a removable top. A tube frame with uphostery stretched over it, maybe add a headliner, and held down with latches. It'll have the right look at least, but of course I'll have to leave it in the garage on sunny days-which are few and far between in my region.

Can you tell me what interior kit was used with this car? Did you install it,
and are you happy with it?

I also meant to ask: how did you brace the car before cutting out the top?
                      Thanks again

                        TEW:

I made the interior myself out of poster board, aluminum and wood to get the shapes correct. The vents are OEM Ferrari, the gauges VDO. I had it upholstered by Mr. Mike of Sarasota, Florida. I used his seats as well. The fit is good and the workmanship is great. There are a few people on this site selling replica interiors that you may want to look into. They are relatively inexpensive at about 2K for the entire interior uncovered, without seats. As for the bracing, yes, see "Going Topless" for pics.

                          Re:Convertible top hell.

That's a hell of a good job for a home made one off interior.
What type of poster board did you use? You're not talking about cardboard are you?
And what about the door panels? Did you make those too?
If you could share just a few insights on how you did all that I would be most appreciative.

Ok, I am ready to design a top from scratch for our wonderful world of Spyder’s. Does anyone out there use any good top latch levers etc? I plan to make the header, ribs and folding frame parts but lack a good source of information on the latching mechanism.

                              Re:Convertible top hell.

We are curently working on a convertible roof mechanism and header for the 355. This roof will fit behind the seats when not in use and will work for both floor set-ups (flat floor such as the real 355 and the Fiero tunnel set-up).

We will try to make the roof as authentic as possible and have it fit the Fiero windshield perfectly.

                              I will keep everyone posted.
