  • Tail light inset measurements

    Could I ask someone to measure the distance in the rear tail light buckets go please?

    I have the kind of rear tail light mounts that stick out instead of in like original so I am cutting my set off and installing some inset tail light buckets.

    I do not have any tail lights right now as I have not tried tracking any Corvette tail lights down yet, but I want to get going on finishing my rear panel body work. I need the distance that the bucket sits in from the panel face at the bottom so I set my buckets in the proper distance. Does that make sense to everyone???

    Thanks in advance.

      Ferrarifan;

      Can you take a depth measurement on the sides of the corvertte lights for me so i know how far to put the insets in to the body? I can sort out how far to go in from those side measurements.

      Thanks

        Re: Tail light inset measurements

        i dont know if i have enough sense to post a pic and dimensions but im gonna try.if your using this style vette light[80-82] the outside light is exactly 3 inches deep from the ft. of the light to the back[where the light goes into it]and its 5 and a qtr. inches in diameter at its widest point.the inside light[backup light]is exactly 2 inches deep and same dia.if you just need to know how deep the red part of these lights are its exactly3 qtrs. of inch,but the whole assy is one piece.i wish i would have recessed mine in a little more

          Don:

          Bondo Bob put 1979 Corvette tail lights in my old Mirage.  He placed them back in the opening a little and frenched in the light on the bottom side.  It looks pretty good.  Send him an IM to get some more details on how he did it.

            i really dont know how a 355 is supposed to look in that area,ive never built one,just giving you dimensions.i have the 74-79 corvette lights also,if that s the style corvette lights youare going to use,i dont think they look as good as the 80-82.

                those are 80-82 vette backup lights in bondo bobs 355,if you order 79 model lights they wont look like those.when the lights are in a vette ,the screws are at 9 oclock and 3 oclock.
