  • Anyone make their own wine?

My roommates and I just finished off the bottling of 5 gallons of Apple Wine. Tastes pretty good now, and I haven't gone blind yet! Of course, I haven't tried drinking more then an ounce of it - it sort of scares us all, the prospect of home made wine. Anyways, it still needs to age some more before we can drink a bottle, as we like our wine carbonated!

So, has anyone else here attempted to ferment their own beverages?

My grandfather made wine out of (muskadine) Not real sure how you spell it, type of grape that grows on a vine. It was real sweet. I plan to by a beer making kit in the next month or two. It evn shows you how to fill a small keg , just what i need to ease the troubles of the day. Me and my wife use to drink alot of beer , but we have cut back alot. The stuff just costs too much, i would guess we would spend $200-300 a month on beer. That is a good kitcar allowance.

I got started making it when I was in Saudi during the war. Start with a bunch of packages of "Mixed Fruit" (basically freeze-dried fruit cocktail from the MRE rations), add some water and yeast, build a fermentation lock from some surgical tubing and a tang jar, and let it age a week or two. Strain through mosquito netting and drink!

In the years after that I've refined the technique just a bit, with legitimate brewing supplies...
