Talking with Ari over the weekend and looks like we will need to upgrade the forum to get access to additional, new and better spam filters. We are also enabling users needing to get approved by a mod before allowing to post so that will definitely help with the 1 post essay writers etc....

I will update the forum when an upgrade will be coming.

Maybe you should just MONITOR THE SITE! These a######s post repeatedly and NOTHING IS DONE ABOUT IT. You must toss them off immediately & DELETE the crap or you will lose all your legitimate members (if, in fact, any are still left). It is NOT about software. It is about paying attention.

that is way harsh, being an admin for a FREE site takes the same amount of time as it does for a paid one. This site came from an appreciation for the work that is takes to build and maintain these dreams

I don't think I am being harsh at all. I am a regular on six other newsgroups and they all have very few problems. On this one, until just recently (thanks, Don) the crap would never get taken down. Probably 3 out of 4 posts were bogus, from creeps with less than 5 posts total. Even when the TITLE of a new post screams bogus, it would hang around for weeks. How do the other newsgroups manage to do so much better?

It has been a great place to share, ask questions and post our projects and objects of desire over the past years.

Think I’ve been around for three completed and one financially stalled project over the years. Roughly 13 years on here (which still makes me a noobie to some)

I’m hoping I have a couple more projects left in me... I really must post more!

Thanks everyone. I have been going in when my time permits (and my mental state needs something simple to do....) over the past few days and puling suspicious posts and users out. If I end up banning someone in error, please don't lose it. Just message me and we can get it sorted out. Some are blatantly obvious and others require some effort to confirm.

One other item we are trying to implement is a new user process that requires approval from the admin/mod so user account creation becomes a workflow that will help with the spam bots as a start.

Good stuff, Don, I didn't know this site had Canadian origins. Who own's the site, they Canadian? Just curious. I ping in and out of all the forum, FB groups as well, but like the knowledge base available hear.

88.5 Countach. The site owner is Canadian and he lives in Greater Toronto area somewhere. He started the site way back when he was still in University so been around for a long time as well. He used to have a 308 replica if i remember correctly. Still kept the the site active over all these years even though he has been out of it for quite a while.

Thanks for taking the bull by the horns, Don; I would not have the computer skills. This website and its members, gave me a lot of support over my early years with the F40 ( which I still have, and continue to improve, and enjoy) I will continue to be a member, and hopefully, help someone else with the dream and ambition.Steve

Hey everyone, after a number of days of tech work the site has been moved to a new server that supports the newest PHP version, and we've upgrade VBulletin to the newest version as well as enabled all their anti-spam functionality to minimize the number of spammers that can get thru.
